3 of the Best Outdoor Activities in Birmingham, AL During Fall
There is something magical about living in Birmingham during the fall season. Being from Florida, I never really got to experience the leaves changing color or the temperature being chilly in the morning and evenings. I vividly remember learning about the fall season as a kid and being fascinated by the fact that leaves change colors. Experiencing it firsthand is breathtaking.
To make the most out of the fall season, I try to spend as much time as possible outside. Soaking in the 70-degree weather by taking walks every few hours, working outside on our patio, and spending the weekends exploring the city. To give you some ideas on outdoor activities in Birmingham this fall, I have listed my top three favorite adventures below!

Farmer’s Market in Pepper Place
I really love attending the Farmer’s Market in Pepper Place year-round, however, it is so much more enjoyable during fall when the mornings are cool. Pepper Place is a great spot in Birmingham that features incredible dining, upscale shopping, and tons of local businesses. Add a farmer’s market and you can count me in!
The market happens every Saturday from 7am – 12pm. Vendors sell bread, honey, art, salsa, produce, and so much more. Some of the Pepper Place stores are also open so you can stop in and support even more small businesses.
Walk through Jemison Park
Located in Mountain Brook, Jemison Park winds through beautiful, wooded areas and stunning homes. It follows the creek that gives Mountain Brook its name. It is a great choice if you are someone like me who wants to enjoy the outdoors while also not going too far away from civilization. The trail path is paved and easy to follow. Don’t forget to bring your pet! The water is easily accessible so dogs can cool off. The trail is surrounded by tall trees that boast bright red and warm orange leaves. Make sure to visit before the weather gets too cool and all the leaves have fallen.
Picnic at Vulcan Park
If you live in Birmingham, you have likely visited the famous Vulcan statue and walked the nearby grounds. For those of you who don’t know, the Vulcan is a spectacular monument to celebrate Birmingham’s history of iron and steel production. This 56-foot-tall statue is the largest cast iron statue in the world! Not to mention, the park overlooks the entire city of Birmingham.
One of the best ways to enjoy the Vulcan Park and Museum is by sharing a picnic with friends or family. There are a few tables under tree cover that provide the perfect place to stop for a snack. Make sure to take a picture in front of the beautiful city view to commemorate the day.
